When should you take maternity Photos?

While everyone has their preference for when they take their maternity photos.  Maternity portraits are typically photographed around 28–34 weeks, depending on the individual pregnancy, how fast their bump is growing, their comfort level, and whether there are multiples or other considerations.

The goal is to photograph your beautiful bump while you still feel comfortable enough to enjoy the experience.

For some this is at the very beginning of their 2nd trimester some wait till later into the 34 week range.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I book my maternity session?

I recommend booking your maternity photography session during your second trimester, ideally around 20–28 weeks of pregnancy. This gives us plenty of time to plan your session, choose your wardrobe, and reserve a date that works well for you. Maternity portraits are typically photographed between 28–34 weeks, when your belly is beautifully defined while you can still feel relatively comfortable. If you're already further along, don't worry—reach out and I'll do my best to find a date that works for your Rockford or Grand Rapids maternity photography session.

Can my partner and children be included in my maternity photos?

Absolutely! Your partner and children are welcome to be included in your maternity photography session. While we’ll make time for beautiful portraits focused on you and your pregnancy, I also love documenting the connection between you, your partner, and your children as you prepare to welcome your newest little one. Whether you're planning studio maternity portraits in Rockford or an on-location maternity session in West Michigan, we’ll create a beautiful mix of individual and family photographs.

Do you provide maternity dresses or wardrobe options?

Yes! I offer a limited, curated collection of maternity dresses and robes in the studio, selected specifically for timeless, editorial maternity photography. If you're planning studio maternity portraits in Rockford or Grand Rapids, these wardrobe options make it easy to create a beautiful, cohesive look that keeps the focus on you and your growing belly. You're also welcome to bring something from your own wardrobe that feels more personal. Before your maternity session, I'll help guide you through wardrobe choices and recommend what will photograph beautifully, so you can arrive feeling confident, comfortable, and prepared.

Can I book maternity and newborn photography together?

Absolutely! I offer both maternity and newborn photography in Rockford, Michigan, making it easy to document your growing family from pregnancy through those first precious days with your baby. If you're interested in booking both, simply let me know which maternity and newborn photography packages you're considering, and I'll create custom package options based on what you're looking for. Whether you prefer studio maternity portraits, an on-location maternity session, studio newborn photography, or a combination of both, we can create an experience that fits your family.

Where is your maternity photography studio located?

My maternity photography studio is located in Rockford, Michigan, just north of Grand Rapids and conveniently located for families throughout West Michigan. The studio is a private, comfortable space designed for studio maternity portraits and newborn photography. The exact studio address, along with parking and arrival information, will be provided after booking so you have everything you need before your session. If you're looking for a Rockford maternity photographer or studio maternity photographer near Grand Rapids, I'd love to welcome you to the studio.

Do you offer outdoor or on-location maternity sessions?

Yes! In addition to studio maternity photography in Rockford, Michigan, I offer outdoor and on-location maternity sessions throughout Grand Rapids and West Michigan. We can choose a location that feels meaningful to you, from beautiful outdoor settings and seasonal scenery to a place that feels special to your family. If you prefer natural surroundings over a studio setting, an on-location maternity session is a beautiful way to document this season in a more relaxed, personal way.

When is the best time for maternity photos?

There isn't one perfect time for every mom. Every pregnancy, every body, and every experience is different, so I want your maternity session to happen when you feel beautiful, comfortable, and connected to this season of your life. I typically recommend scheduling maternity photos between 20–34 weeks, depending on how you're feeling and how your pregnancy is progressing. Some moms love photographing their growing bump earlier, while others prefer to wait until later in pregnancy. Whether you're planning studio maternity portraits in Rockford or an on-location maternity session in Grand Rapids or throughout West Michigan, we'll choose a time that feels right for you. This is your pregnancy and your story—there's no need to fit into someone else's timeline.
